Psychoeducational Assessments in Surrey, BC
I offer psychoeducational assessments at my office in Surrey for children aged 6-19. I am also able to provide these assessments for university students. A psychoeducational assessment includes an estimate of cognitive functioning. In plain terms, cognitive functioning means abilities and capacity for learning. I will use gold-standard tools to examine your or your child's ability to express themselves verbally, solve problems, process information, and remember information. The next step is to examine performance in academics. Again, I utilize gold-standard assessment tools to ensure an accurate assessment. Areas covered by an academic assessment include reading skills, writing skills, and math skills. When one assessment tool is not enough, I use another set of tools to ensure I fully capture your or your child's needs in a certain area. When required, I may also add in assessment of memory, fine-motor (pencil) control, and nonverbal assessments for client's who may not speak English as their first language.
Psychoeducational assessments are not complete without a screening of mental health functioning, executive functions (skills required to complete a goal or task), and daily living skills. I may also screen for autism and ADHD where appropriate. It is also very important that I recieve information from other sources such as members of your care team or school team. At the end of the assessment, I can promise you my honest clinical opinion about your or your child's needs. I then write a report that you can share with your team to recieve the appropriate support.
