Education
I graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2020 with a PhD in Clinical Psychology. My doctoral dissertation was about parent-child interactions in children with and without a diagnosis of autism. I am well versed in neurodivergence due to my educational background. Research interests included emotion regulation, executive functions, and mental health. In my private practice I use my former area of research specialty to inform my clinical work.
Positionality and Area of Focus
I am a cis-gendered woman of color who lives with a chronic illness. I understand that my journey will not be the same as my client's and I work to ensure you and your experiences are acknowledged in our work together.
Since the start of my graduate training in 2011, I developed expertise in working with with neurodivergent, queer, and multicultural families in hospital, community, and private mental health settings. My areas of interest also include supporting clients with anxiety, low mood, obsessive compulsive disorder, and emotion dysregulation. I love to work with clients and families from all backgrounds. I have training in and use the following approaches: cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and committment therapy (ACT), emotion focused family therapy (EFT; parent support), collaborative and proactive solutions (CPS; parent support), supportive parenting for anxious childhood emotions (SPACE; parent support), emotion regulation skills/dialectical behavioural therapy skills (DBT skills training), and attachment and trauma-informed approaches. I combine evidence-based therapies with my neurodiversity-affirming approach, cultural humility, and trauma-informed practice to work with my clients to create a personalized integrative plan just for my clients.
Personal
In my spare time, I enjoy the beauty of nature, listening to music, and spending time with my dog, Bumblebee. I also enjoy cooking and trying new recipes. I speak English and Punjabi and can provide services in both languages, if required.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about my experience/qualifications, or if you have questions about whether I would be the right fit for you.
