What does therapy or consultation look like?
Once I recieve an inquiry, I reach out to the prospective client or parent to schedule a free 15-minute phone call or virtual meeting to determine if we are a good fit. I encourage clients and their parents to ask as many questions as needed to determine whether they will be comfortable working with me. I also ask a few questions to determine whether I believe I can be helpful to you.
If we are the right fit, we will schedule our first session. The first 1-2 sessions focus on understanding your needs, giving you an additional opportunity to ask questions, and to build a plan together to meet your goals. I work collaboratively with each client to determine therapy goals and which approach to take in order to meet those goals.
I have training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotion Focused Family Therapy (parent support), Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (parent support), emotion regulation skills, and Exposure and Response Prevention. I am familiar with how trauma and neurodivergence affect mental health and integrate attachment principles in my work. Sessions can include meeting with a child or adolescent alone, meeting with parents alone, and meeting with children and their parents together.
Once we build a plan together, we begin to meet regularly. I include regular check-ins to ensure you are comfortable with the direction of the sessions and with me as a therapist. We decide together when we have met the goals of therapy or consultation and when it is appropriate to meet less frequently.
